The Guitar

It is impossible to exaggerate the popularity of the guitar. One out of every four amateur musicians in the United States plays the guitar. Even a mediocre player can produce a variety of music with this unique instrument. Trying to find valid reasons for the guitar's ability to survive through the years isn't hard. One weird theory by a prominent musician states that guitarists find security hiding behind the bulky instrument. But the most people are reluctant to accept this idea because there are more obvious reasons for playing a guitar. It can be carried anywhere, it is inexpensive to buy, and only a few lessons are required to learn to play it well.

The guitar is one of the oldest instruments known to man. It probably originated in the vicinity of China. There were guitars in ancient Egypt and Greece as well, but the written history of the guitar starts in Spain in the 13th century. By 1500 the guitar was popular in Italy, France and Spain. A French document of that time concludes that many people were playing guitar. Stradivarius, the undeniable king of violin makers, could not resist creating a variety of guitars. Also, there was no lack of music written for the instrument. Haydn, Schubert, and others wrote guitar music. When the great Beethoven was asked to compose music for the guitar, he went into a rage and refused, but eventually even Beethoven could not ignore the challenge; legend tells us he finally called the guitar a miniature orchestra. Indeed the guitar does sound like a little orchestra! Perhaps that is why in rural areas around the world the guitar has been a source of music for millions to enjoy.

Only in Ambon - Indonesia

The Quick Facts of Ambon:
  • The Ambonese believe the ocean waves of a beach named Natsepa can heal various diseases.
  • World class muck diving, with a huge array of critters, can be observed and photographed during long dives at shallow sites around Laha.
Must try!
  • Ambon Rujak (fruit salad with peanut sauce). I'm not a big fan of rujak, but the one I ate at Natsepa beach had a much sweeter peanut sauce. The nuts weren't completely crushed, giving an extra crunch with the fruits.
  • Papeda. A traditional dish of local cuisine. Papeda is made from sago and served with yellow fish soup. Sticky and slippery (think thick sago gravy), the best way to eat Papeda would be to slurp up the whole chunk, and not try to cut it up with a spoon and fork.
  • Wajik Ketan. Sweet sticky rice best served hot. The favorite Wajik Ketan is found at Galala village.

Mind Your English

Let's face it: English can be one confusing language. A lot of words sound similar but they are spelled and pronounced differently. An extra "-d/-ed" and "-s/-es" can totally change the meaning of a word. But if you can wrap your head around the explanations below, you should be able to make yourself heard the right way.

1. Wrong: Thanks before*
    Right: Thanks in advance
How to use it: I would like to thank you in advance for your help.
S.P: * Thanks before is a common error that actually doesn't entail any meaning in English.

2. Wrong: Thanks God
    Right: Thank God
How to use it: Thank God I didn't run over the cat!

3. Wrong: I am boring*
    Right: I am bored
How to use it: I am bored because there is no one at home.
S.P: * When you say I am boring, you are stating that you are an uninterested and dispassionate person.

4. Wrong: Congratulation for
    Right: Congratulation on
How to use it: Congratulation on your graduation!

5. Wrong: Worthed*
    Right: Worth it
How to use it: Although Microsoft may end up investing more than US$ 300 million in cloud computing, the company representative said it will be worth it.
S.P: * Worthed doesn't even exist in the English vocabulary. The phrase worth it is commonly misspelled as worthed.

6. Wrong: Dateline*
    Right: Deadline
How to use it: The university announced its plan to extend the registration deadline from June 7 to June 22.
S.P: * Dateline refers to a line in a written document or a printed publication - including filed news reports - giving its date and/or place of origin.

7. Wrong: expresso
    Right: espresso
How to use it: Can I order one cup of espresso, please?

8. Wrong: Your welcome / You are welcomed
    Right: You are welcome
How to use it: It is no big deal, you are welcome!

Butterfly

When you love someone so deeply
They become your life
It's easy to succumb to overwhelming fears inside
Blindly I imagined I could
Keep your under glass
Now I understand to hold you
I must open up myhands
And watch you rise
Spread your wings and prepare to fly
For you have become a butterfly
Fly abandonedly into the sun
If you should return to me
We truly ere meant to be
So spread your wings and fly
Butterfly
I have learned that beauty
Has to flourish in the light
Wild horses run unbridled
Or their spirit dies
You have given me the courage
To be all that I can
And truly feel your heart will
Lead you back to me when you're
Ready to land

Spread your wings and prepare to fly
For you have become a butterfly
Fly abandonedly into the sun
If you should return to me
We truly were meant to be
So spread your wings and fly
Butterfly

I cant pretend these tears

Aren't over flowing stedily
I can't prevent this hurt from
Almost overtaking me
But I will stand and say goodbye
For you'll never be mine
Until you know the way it feels to fly

So flutter through the sky
Butterfly
Spread your wings and fly
Butterfly

S.P:

I'm typing this post because I'm inspired by the song above. The song is very inspiring and it's like an example of life fact that we had or have undergone what the song described through the lyrics. Actually this song gives motivation that life is hard especially about love story, but we don't ever give up because of broken heart or can't reach the one who we really want to get. Just remember, life is GO ON ! Life is never stop or always make true all our dreams because The Almighty God really knows what the best for us in the future :) -vey-

Sejarah Bahasa Inggris

You & I

Hard, hard, hard
That I feel so hard
I totally can't see
What your mind wants to see

I saw you so black
Grey slowly turns into back
I don't understand
Nothing to do just to stand

Simple but so deep
But I want to keep
I'm still listening
And still watching

Hey you
I'm thinking about you
This feeling so confusing
But I want to reach the clearing
Give me the clarity
With you we'll make unforgettable creativity

The Last Summer

 Hot, hot, hot
 Why that's so hot?
The dry winds hurt the skin
Standing here is like a breakin'
But why is my heart so cold?
There's a wrong thing in my head
 I don't understand
 It can't be understood
 I'm sick
Stay longer here makes me freak
 I'm stupid
But I'm sure it won't be repeated
 Go, go, go!
 I really want to go
 Right now
 And I don't care somehow
