The Quick Facts of Ambon:
- The Ambonese believe the ocean waves of a beach named Natsepa can heal various diseases.
- World class muck diving, with a huge array of critters, can be observed and photographed during long dives at shallow sites around Laha.
Must try!
- Ambon Rujak (fruit salad with peanut sauce). I'm not a big fan of rujak, but the one I ate at Natsepa beach had a much sweeter peanut sauce. The nuts weren't completely crushed, giving an extra crunch with the fruits.
- Papeda. A traditional dish of local cuisine. Papeda is made from sago and served with yellow fish soup. Sticky and slippery (think thick sago gravy), the best way to eat Papeda would be to slurp up the whole chunk, and not try to cut it up with a spoon and fork.
- Wajik Ketan. Sweet sticky rice best served hot. The favorite Wajik Ketan is found at Galala village.
